"After being wounded in Afghanistan, I struggled to make sense of my life."

Before I connected with Warriors Set Free, my life was in a downward spiral. I was angry at life and those close to me. After being wounded in Afghanistan, I struggled to make sense of my life. Why did I deserve to live? Why me? I was full of guilt and confusion about what happened in combat. It was destroying my marriage and my family and turning into the type of person I hated. At this low place in life, God used Warriors Set Free to show me that my life has a purpose. That I HAVE A PURPOSE! God has had my life planned out from the beginning. Warriors Set Free has taught me how to walk with our Father, the all-knowing, all-powerful One. His grace and kindness, who is the only Way. They also taught me how to stand up and fight the fight. I know my life will not be easy, but if I stand up and continue to grow my faith, He will do amazing things through me. I am so ready to use my God-given gifts. I am so blessed to have Warriors Set Free in my life. I now have a mission and a band of brothers and sisters to walk/roll through life.

As a current member of the Army, Warriors Set Free is important because I know that I don’t have to combat fear and lies alone. Warriors Set Free speaks truth into lies and brings light into darkness. It’s a place of acceptance, love, and hope, and a judgment-free zone. As a youth pastor, Warriors Set Free helped equip me to speak truth into the lives of my students. It’s helping me walk in freedom and my true identity in Christ as I lead my students to do the same. It has equipped me to have tough conversations and dig into difficult questions.

Before I became a part of Warriors Set Free, I was scared and afraid. I felt displaced and alone. Honestly, I was spiritually bankrupt. I didn’t think I had an issue with alcohol, but it came to the point that I almost lost my life in December of 2017. My disease –alcoholism– had taken control of me. I now feel connected and spiritually-based. There is a higher power, and there is a reason for my existence. Warriors Set Free helped me to see that God is real and cares for me, even when there are a lot of different things trying to hold me down. God brought light back into my life. Warriors Set Free is helping me discover that light in my life again.
